Amy Certilman is a jewelry designer and entrepreneur. Her custom designs are versatile, elegant, and always reflective of their new owner. Amy has the unique ability to quickly grasp what setting will best suit her client’s current lifestyle and needs. Whether contemporary or traditional, Amy finds and creates “the perfect setting” for heirloom and new jewelry alike.
For over twenty years Amy has cultivated relationships with the best diamond and pearl distributors in the business, as well as premiere estate dealers. She loves the concept of creating new jewelry with stones that have a story. "Each piece of jewelry I create with a client has a story - whether using an existing stone, finding an antique or new stone, an heirloom either continues or begins"
Amy grew up in Scarsdale, New York, and remembers how both her grandmothers loved and appreciated fine jewelry. As a child, she would intently listen to the “stories” behind each piece they wore and she frequently tells her children similar stories when she wears her jewelry today.
Before starting The Perfect Setting Amy worked in the investment banking industry; first at Morgan Stanley, then at JP Morgan where she was a Vice President in the Compliance Department. She left the banking industry to stay home with her children, and co-founded an accessories and gift company, which she later expanded on her own to include jewelry.
In 2008, her sister divorced and asked Amy to re-do her wedding jewelry. Within weeks of completion Amy’s phone started ringing with new clients who wanted to reset their unworn jewelry as well. Recognizing there was a need in the marketplace for a "Jewelry Re-designer" and an opportunity for expansion, Amy reorganized her existing company, already called The Perfect Setting, to focus solely on jewelry redesign.
Amy has added several new services to her business since launching her website in 2010, specifically helping her clients buy new diamonds and sell their unworn jewelry and gold. By selling the gold from their old settings to offset the cost of their new ones, Amy has brought the “reuse/recycle” ethos to a whole new realm. She truly believes that jewelry should be worn and not stored in a jewelry box.
Amy graduated from Tulane University where she majored in Communications. A lifelong learner, she takes continuing education courses at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and served as a Trustee on The Cold Spring Harbor Board of Education. She lives with her husband Lee, and their two teenage sons, Andrew and Reid on the North Shore of Long Island.
